Police detain 32 people over Gülen links in operations across Turkey

Turkish police detained 32 people in several Turkish cities for suspected links to the Gülen movement, which is accused by the government of being behind a failed coup in Turkey last year.

According to the CNN Türk website, police detained 17 people as part of operations in 10 provinces over their alleged use of the ByLock application, which Turkish authorities believe is a communication tool among followers of the faith-based Gülen movement.

Police carried out simultaneous operations in the provinces of İzmir, Antalya, Mersin, Zonguldak, Elazığ, Tunceli, Aydın, Muğla, Tokat and Adıyaman targeting followers of the movement to apprehend a total of 41 people for whom detention warrants were issued.

Meanwhile, 15 people were detained in Ankara as part of an investigation into 143 people for whom detention warrants issued over having accounts in the now-closed Bank Asya, which was linked to the Gülen movement.

Tens of thousands of people, including civil servants, police officers, soldiers, businessmen and homemakers, have either been dismissed or arrested for using ByLock or having accounts at Bank Asya since the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
