Deputy PM says Turkey has no plans to compete in Eurovision 2018

Deputy Prime Minister and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesperson Bekir Bozdağ has said Turkey has no plans at the moment to participate in the Eurovision song contest next year, the t24 news website reported on Monday.

Bozdağ’s remarks came during a meeting with the Ankara representatives and executives of newspapers and television stations.

Turkey was represented by Can Bonomo the last time it participated in Eurovision, in 2012.

In 2003, Turkish singer Sertab Erener won the song contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Portugal will be its 63rd edition.

Russia is expected to attend again after withdrawing from the 2017 competition.

So far, 23 countries have confirmed their intention to participate in the 2018 edition of the contest.
