Turkish Airlines (THY) flight A333, flying to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, turned back to İstanbul Atatürk Airport while in Romanian airspace after the flight crew found an unattended mobile phone on board.
According to the Hürriyet daily, flight A333 took off from Atatürk at 3:12 p.m. local time with 277 passengers on board. A mobile phone was found in the plane a half hour into the flight.
The plane landed at İstanbul Atatürk Airport at 5:30 p.m. after the captain decided to turn around as required by flight security procedures.
No threat was found after a security check of the plane, and it took off again for Washington on Wednesday evening.
