A penal court of peace in İzmir has banned access to a Constitutional Court web page on which a ruling against police officers who beat a doctor in 2013 is published.

According to a story on the OdaTV website on Tuesday, the İzmir 7th Penal Court of Peace banned access to a web page of the Turkish Constitutional Court where it released a decision in 2014 on a case in which police officers in İzmir’s Bornova district stripped a Dr. Deniz Yazıcı naked and beat him in a field and at a police station in 2013.

The Constitutional Court on Dec. 10, 2014 ruled in favor of Yazıcı when he applied individually to the court after local courts declined to convict the police officers on “torture” charges.

The top court decided for Yazıcı and also ordered the police officers to pay TL 20,000 in damages.

The OdaTV report said it was also revealed that the İzmir 7th Penal Court of Peace banned access to news stories reporting on the case with the headline “Police beat up doctor in İzmir.”
