A Turkish goldsmith in Kahramanmaraş province has crafted a model tank from eight kilograms of gold in memory of the more than 240 people who died in a failed coup last summer.
Mehmet Reyhanlıoğlu, owner of a jewelry company in Kahramanmaraş, said he made the model tank in 10 months from eight kilograms of 24-carat gold.
Reyhanlıoğlu said during a jewelry fair in Kahramanmaraş that the model tank will not be sold but will be displayed in a museum in the city to remember those who died in the failed coup.
“If we are living today, it is because of those 249 people who sacrificed their lives [in the failed coup]. It is a priceless model tank because it is made in remembrance of those martyrs,” he said.
Earlier in March in Turkey during a chocolate, confectionery and cake fair, a cake statue of noncommissioned officer Ömer Halisdemir, who died during the failed coup after he killed a putschist general in Ankara, was also made.
