Erdoğan says economic restrictions, business visas with Russia to be lifted soon

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - MARCH 10 : Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (R) meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin (L) in Moscow, Russia on March 10, 2017. AFP

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in Moscow on Friday that he expects Russia to completely lift economic restrictions as well as the requirement for Turkish businessmen to obtain visas for travel to Russia.

Speaking during a news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Erdoğan said Turkey and Russia would set up an investment fund in order to boost bilateral economic relations and that the need for visas for Turkish businessmen would soon be eliminated.

Moscow imposed economic sanctions on Ankara after Turkey shot down a Russian jet on its Syrian border in November 2015. Ties were officially restored following an apology by Erdoğan to Putin in last August.
