Ten students at Ankara University were detained by police on Monday after they set up a stand on campus to mark the approaching International Women’s Day, March 8.
A crowd of students clapped in protest at the police’s treatment of the students.
University campuses across Turkey remain under strict police surveillance due to state of emergency decrees issued following a failed coup attempt on July 15 of last year.
At least 7,316 academics have been dismissed by government decrees over their alleged ties to the coup plotters.
Police have detained dozens of students in universities across Turkey for protesting purges of academics at Turkish universities.
