Pilot of crashed Syrian jet found near Hatay

56-years-old Syrian pilot, Muhammad Sufhan, receives medical treatment at a state hospital after he was found following a nine-hour search later on he parachuted before his fighter jet crashed in Hatay, Turkey on March 05, 2017.

Turkish rescue teams have found and taken to a hospital a Syrian pilot who ejected before his aircraft crashed near the Turkish-Syrian border on Saturday.

The pilot was identified as Muhammad Sufhan, 56.

Sufhan was found on Saturday around 40 kilometers from the wreckage of his aircraft and taken first to a gendarmerie base and then to Hatay State Hospital.

The Syrian army announced on Saturday evening to have lost contact with one of its reconnaissance planes.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım also said on Saturday that an aircraft belonging to the Syrian regime crashed in Turkey and that a search was being conducted for the pilots.

Erdal Ata, the governor of Hatay, said gendarmerie and medical teams reached the wreckage of the Syrian plane and that no one was in the cockpit.

Yıldırım said that “the cause of the crash is not yet clear, but poor air conditions were reported in the region.”
