The owner of the Metro Transportation company, controversial businessman Galip Öztürk, announced on Twitter on Monday that his company is offering free bus trips to people who vote “yes” in an April 16 referendum that if approved will bring about an executive presidency in Turkey.
A staunch supporter of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the businessman, who stood trial for murder and establishing a criminal network, said his company had started to work on a project to provide free coach travel to citizens who say “yes” on April 16.
In November, Öztürk, the owner of one of the largest passenger bus fleets in Turkey, had written on Twitter that he was ready to transport migrants to the EU border upon Erdoğan’s orders. He had also offered in December free bus trips to people who converted their dollar holdings to Turkish lira.
