PM: US could take advantage of Turkey’s experience with high-speed trains

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Wednesday that the US could take advantage of Turkey’s experience in building high-speed trains, claiming that Americans do not currently have that mode of transportation.

“There is no high-speed train in the US, but we have them. If you want experience, here it is. We are not joking,” Yıldırım said in reference to new US President Donald Trump’s promise to build highways and railways.

Pro-government circles often claim that Turkey has surpassed the West in technology, in an effort to mobilize public opinion in the absence of major independent media outlets to verify facts.

Since the Gezi Park protests in the summer of 2013, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government has been claiming that the Western powers are jealous of infrastructure projects in Turkey such as the third airport and the third bridge on the Bosporus.
