Gaziantep Governor’s Office: Attack was not linked to terror

The Gaziantep Governor’s Office has announced that an armed attack on police headquarters on Tuesday was not a terrorist attack, Hurriyet reported on Wednesday.

Two suspects attempted to attack a police station in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of one of the assailants and the injuring of a police officer.

According to the statement, M.K. was killed by police while he was trying to attack police headquarters, Three people suspected to be linked with the incident have been detained. “Investigations up to now show that the armed attack was not linked with terrorist organizations,” said the Gaziantep Governor Office.

Gaziantep has been hit by several terrorist attacks by militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) over the past months.
