2 arrested in Düzce on charges of insulting Deputy PM Kurtulmuş

Two people who were detained in the northwestern province of Düzce on charges of insulting Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş on Thursday were arrested later in the day.

The individuals, identified only by the initials İ.B. and T.B., were detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Akçakoca Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

They are accused of insulting a state official in Twitter messages.

Turkish authorities have launched thousands of lawsuits against people accused of insulting state officials, mainly President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and officials from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government.
