Prosecutor seeks 15-year jail term for Fethullah Gülen’s dentist

Turkish prosecutors are seeking 15-year jail sentences for Turkish dentists who reportedly provided dental treatment to Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen several times in the past, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Monday.

Dentist Ali İlker Baştan and his wife Esma Kuriş Baştan, who is also a dentist, were detained by police last month and later put in prison on charges of membership in a terror organization, involvement in activities on behalf of a terror organization and aiding and abetting a terror organization.

According to the news agency, Baştan owns a dental clinic in İstanbul and paid several visits to the US to provided dental treatment to Gülen in the past.

The Ministry of Justice announced on Monday that since a coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, a total of 41,326 people have been arrested on charges of links to the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of being behind the failed coup. (Turkey Purge)
