Necmi Cansever, Turkey’s former military attaché to Brazil, was arrested by a court on Monday on charges of alleged membership in the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding a failed coup on July 15.
Staff Col. Cansever, also a pilot, was previously jailed as part of an investigation into the movement.
About 120,000 people have been purged from state bodies, in excess of 80,000 detained and over 40,000 have been arrested since the coup attempt. Arrestees include journalists, judges, prosecutors, police and military officers, academics, governors and even a comedian. (Turkey Purge)
