A Turkish soldier who was injured in clashes with Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in northern Syria on Friday died of his injuries at a hospital in Gaziantep province on Saturday.

As part of an operation called Euphrates Shield, Turkey sent tanks across the border to help Syrian rebels drive ISIL from the border city of Jarabulus in late August in a dramatic escalation of its involvement in the Syrian civil war.

Since August, 20 Turkish soldiers have been killed in Syria during the Euphrates Shield operation.
