Turkey detains 372, mostly from pro-Kurdish HDP, over terror links

Following car bomb and suicide bomber attacks in İstanbul on Saturday night that claimed 44 lives, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced on Tuesday that a total of 372 people have been detained on allegations of “terrorist propaganda and involvement in activities on behalf of a terrorist organization.”

In counterterrorism operations across 11 Turkish provinces, the detainees mostly included people from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

Some of the detainees are accused of disseminating terrorist propaganda for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on social media.

In the southern city of Mersin 64 people from the HDP and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) were among those who were rounded up in police operations.

Meanwhile, a Diyarbakır court ordered that eight HDP deputy, one of whom is already under arrest, testify in a trial involving the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK).

The twin attacks in the heart of İstanbul on Saturday evening killed 44 people and injured 160.

The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK), an offshoot of the terrorist PKK, claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday.
