Besime Konca, a deputy from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who was detained on Monday night and released on probation on Tuesday morning, was detained again on Tuesday evening.

Another HDP deputy, Çağlar Demirel, was also detained along with Konca on Monday night, but she was not released. The deputies were detained as part of an investigation overseen by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Konca was detained again at the Diyarbakır Courthouse where she went to follow proceedings concerning Demirel.

Media reports said Konca was detained by police officers who came from Batman after the Batman Public Prosecutor’s Office objected to her release.

Following her release on Tuesday morning, Konca said she was subjected to maltreatment during the hours she was kept under police custody.

“I was faced with all kinds of threat and torture as I was being transported from Diyarbakır to here [Batman],” she said in remarks that appeared in the Cumhuriyet newspaper’s online edition on Tuesday.

Konca said she was forcibly handcuffed.

In the meantime, HDP deputy Demirel was referred to court for arrest on Tuesday.
