Ali Özcan, the general manager of the Dönerci Ali Usta restaurant chain, has been arrested over his alleged links to the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding a July 15 coup attempt.
He had recently been detained.
Özcan’s arrest was widely mocked on social media as it increased the number of restaurant chain owners behind bars.
Previously, three businessmen including one of the owners of the popular Ovalı restaurant chain in İstanbul, Ahmet Tuzlu, were arrested in İstanbul as part of an investigation into the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON), which is affiliated with the Gülen movement.
Moreover, Serdar Seyidoğlu, the general manager of Seyidoğlu Baklava chain, was detained on Oct. 1, over his alleged links to the movement. (TurkeyPurge)
