A prosecutor in eastern Bingöl province on Tuesday demanded an aggravated life sentence and 15 years on a separate charge for leading Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) politician İdris Balüken.

Prosecutor Ahmet Bektaş released a written statement on Tuesday accusing Balüken of membership in and propagandizing for a terrorist organization, charges on which Balüken had been arrested on Nov. 4. The investigation was made possible when the parliamentary immunity of HDP deputies was lifted earlier this year, the prosecutor also said.

Along with Balüken, nine other HDP deputies including Co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ have been in prison on similar charges of terrorism since Nov. 4.
