A Turkish academic who was dismissed from her position as part of a government purge following a failed coup on July 15 was detained for the 15th time on Friday after her 17th protest demanding reinstatement to her job at the university.
Nuriye Gülmen along with two supporters sought to protest her dismissal by sitting in the middle of Ankara’s Yüksek Street, but the police detained the three of them.
Gülmen reportedly was fired from Konya Selçuk University. Turkey in a widespread purge has expelled a total of 6,337 academics since July 15 due to alleged links to the attempted coup and terrorist propaganda.
