[VİDEO] Erdoğan says Turkey will reintroduce death penalty despite EU norms

Must read

The Turkish government does not care about what “Western countries” say about the planned reinstatement of capital punishment, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday.

I know how my nation feels about this issue [death penalty]. And therefore this issue is on the agenda of Parliament. The important thing is what my nation wants. We don’t care what George or Hans say. We care about what God says,” Erdoğan said during a speech delivered at the funeral of Muhammet Fatih Safitürk, the governor of Mardin’s Derik district who was killed by Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) members on Nov. 11.

Safitürk was appointed as a trustee to the Derik Municipality in September. Three people including Safitürk were injured in an explosion near the residence of the Derik district governor on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Mardin Governor’s Office.

According to the statement, PKK militants attacked the residence of the district governor with homemade explosives, injuring three people including Safitürk. (Turkey Purge)
