Man who shot CHP deputy chairman: I told him to speak politely about Erdoğan

Must read

The man who attacked Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Bülent Tezcan in Aydın on Saturday said in his testimony that he warned the opposition politician to speak politely about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The attacker, Alpaslan Sargın, told the police on Monday he was under the influence of alcohol. ¨I told him to talk in a decent manner about the chief,¨ Sargın said. “Chief” is a nickname that Erdoğan supporters frequently use to praise him.

According to Sargın, when the CHP’s Tezcan gave him an “unpleasant response,” he took out his gun and shot him.

Sargın also said that when he heard Tezcan was talking about Erdoğan, he remembered the deputy’s attendance at a pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) congress, clearly dissatisfied with the deputy’s behavior.

Tezcan was shot in the foot at a restaurant in the Aegean city of Aydın on Saturday.
