In the early hours of Saturday, Republic Day, Turkish police raided 35 locations in Ankara and detained six Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and six Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) suspects.
In a separate operation in Konya the same day, 10 more ISIL suspects were detained.
On the eve of Republic Day, the US Embassy in Ankara had issued a security warning for its citizens. The police operation followed this warning, directing attention to threats in the nation’s capital.
