İstanbul Bar Association elects new president

Lawyer Mehmet Durakoğlu was elected the new chairman of the İstanbul Bar Association, garnering 54 percent of the votes in an election held on Sunday.

The election took place at the Haliç Congress Center in İstanbul.

Durakoğlu, who was backed by former chairman of the bar association Ümit Kocasakal, received 13,079 votes out of the 23,092 votes that were cast.

Durakoğlu’s rivals were Several Ballıkaya, Ali Rıza Kaplan and Ömer Kavilli.

The İstanbul Bar Association has around 36,800 members.
