Suspected prosecutor escapes arrest after proving he is racegoer

A Kütahya prosecutor who was earlier detained over links to the Gülen movement has been released after he proved that he is a racegoer.

M.E.K. was among thousands of prosecutors who were suspended from their jobs and later detained over alleged links to the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding a July 15 coup in Turkey.

The TR724 news platform claimed the prosecutor was released by the court after he presented betting receipts and video footage from betting shops showing his visits as evidence that he couldn’t possibly be a member of the movement.

The prosecutor has been also reemployed by the Supreme Boards of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK).

A government-backed Turkish court last year ruled for the seizure of the movement-affiliated Koza İpek Holding and based its decision on a “kind of excellence” that no mistakes were found in the accounting records of the company, which was unrealistic according to the court. (Turkey Purge)
