Iran summons Turkish ambassador over ‘false statements’

Must read

The Turkish ambassador in Tehran was summoned to the foreign ministry on Thursday over allegedly false statements on regional developments made by high-level Turkish officials, Iranian state television reported.

Iran’s “severe objection” to Turkey’s remarks on foreign policy developments was reportedly delivered to Turkish Ambassador Rıza Hakan Tekin. However, no details as to the matter in question have been released.

Turkey has been critical of objections to its participation in the Mosul operation, which aims to cleanse the northern Iraqi city of Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters.

Iran has increased its influence in domestic Iraqi politics, especially after the US invasion of the country.
