36 civil servants detained in Bartın-based operation

Another 36 state workers have been detained over alleged links to the Gülen movement.

Police carried out operations on Tuesday in eight provinces including Bartın and took 36 civil servants into custody.

Turkey survived a military coup attempt on July 15 that killed over 240 people and wounded more than a thousand others. Immediately after the putsch, the government along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen movement. The movement strongly denies any involvement in the coup attempt.

More than 100,000 people have lost their jobs at state institutions with some 72,000 detained and 34,000 arrested over alleged their ties to the movement since July 15.

Meanwhile, detention warrants were issued the same day for 49 others for using the ByLock mobile app. Turkish prosecutors claim that ByLock is the top communication tool among members of the faith-based Gülen movement.
