Akşener launches legal appeal against expulsion from MHP

Must read

Former Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy and leadership candidate Meral Akşener on Thursday filed a lawsuit with an Ankara court requesting an interim injunction on her expulsion from the MHP.

In her petition Akşener claimed that her expulsion was made in accordance with articles of the MHP bylaws that were no longer in effect.

Last month the disciplinary board of the MHP unanimously voted to expel Akşener from the party.

The party had referred Akşener and an emergency convention delegation to the disciplinary board in August, demanding their expulsion on the grounds that they violated Article 11 of party bylaws, which outlines party membership and the party’s mission and responsibilities.

Ayhan Erel, Ali Sağır and Mehmet Bilgiç were members of the delegation that organized an emergency convention aimed at challenging the leadership of long-standing MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli.
