Two suicide bombers who were preparing for an attack in the nation’s capital blew themselves up in a car during a police operation near an Ankara highway on Saturday morning.
Before the incident in the Haymana district of the capital in which both attackers died, the police were tipped off from Diyarbakır that three suicide bombers were preparing for an attack in Ankara. When the bombers were asked to surrender, they blew themselves up with a large amount of explosives on their persons.
Although an investigation has not yet been completed, the governor of Ankara said the terrorists are thought to have had links to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), referring to one of the attackers as a man from Bingöl named Harun Arslan. The other terrorist, believed to have been a woman, has not yet been positively identified, but news channel NTV announced the name of female bomber as Mahide Ataş, who was born in 1990.
