Sakarya police on Saturday detained two more relatives of Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen on charges of alleged membership in a terrorist organization.
The Turkish government accuses the cleric of masterminding a July 15 coup attempt and has been pursuing a witch-hunt against people affiliated with Gülen for some time.
Gülen denies any role in the bloody putsch.
His two female relatives, known only by the initials S.K. and N.K., were detained on the accusation of membership in “FETÖ,” an abbreviation for what the government calls the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, in Sakarya’s Hendek district.
Turkey has so far detained 43,000 people and arrested 32,000 over their alleged ties to Gülen. More than 100,000 people have been either sacked or removed from state positions.
Many of the preacher’s relatives have been put behind bars since July 15. (Turkey Purge)
