12 more TV stations shut down under emergency rule in Turkey

Turkey’s media watchdog, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), has shut down 12 more TV stations, including the pro-Kurdish Hayatın Sesi, TV 10, Van TV, Jiyan TV, Azadi TV and Zarog TV, upon the order of the Prime Ministry.

RTÜK said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision to shut down the television stations was taken according to government decree No. 668, issued during the state of emergency declared on July 20 following a failed July 15 coup attempt.

On Thursday afternoon the semi-official Anadolu news agency announced that the pro-Kurdish İMC TV is also among the outlets to be shut down.

More than 160 media outlets were previously shut down by government decree issued under post-coup emergency rule.

Meanwhile, a total of 120 journalists are currently under arrest in Turkey.
