1 soldier, 1 village guard killed by PKK

One soldier and one village guard were killed on Saturday by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists in Turkey’s Southeast.

According to a DHA report, one soldier was killed and another was wounded during clashes between security forces and PKK terrorists in the Lice district of Diyarbakır province. One PKK member was also killed. Security forces have been conducting operations in the region after a curfew was imposed in 18 villages.

One village guard died in a PKK attack in Şırnak province, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Saturday.

Turkish authorities had conducted direct talks with jailed PKK chief Abdullah Öcalan for several years until a truce in effect collapsed in the summer of 2015. Since then, there have been heavy clashes between the PKK and Turkish security forces.

More than 40,000 people, including 5,500 security force members, have been killed in four decades of fighting between the Turkish state and the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU.
