Forty-five students at Middle East Technical University received 10-month jail sentences for participating in a protest while then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was visiting the campus to participate in the launch of the Göktürk-2 satellite in December 2012, CNN Turk reported on Tuesday.

An Ankara court handed down 10-month jail sentences for each student for “violation of the assembly law” and “preventing public officials from carrying out their duties.” The court suspended the sentences for three students upon the appeal of their lawyers.
