4 detained over suspected plot against British, German missions

Turkish authorities have detained four people as part of an investigation into a potential threat against the British and German diplomatic missions in the country, both of which have been temporarily closed, reportedly over fear of attack.

However, no links have been found between the suspects and any terrorist groups, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Friday.

The investigation was reportedly prompted by intelligence about a potential Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) threat against the missions.

Britain’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office had earlier stated that the UK Embassy in Ankara had been shut on Sept. 16 for unspecified security reasons.

The German Embassy said on its website that its missions were only open for limited services after a four-day public holiday this week.
