Long Eid holiday leaves Altan brothers in legal limbo

Must read

Veysel Ok and Ergin Cinmen, lawyers for prominent journalists Mehmet Altan and Ahmet Altan, who were detained four days ago, yesterday issued a joint statement saying that because of the long Eid holiday they could not find the prosecutor responsible for the case or a court in which to appeal their clients’ detention.

They called the charges against the brothers – sending “subliminal messages” about the July 15 failed military coup in their writings before the fact – “unserious.”

The Turkish government announced a nine-day public holiday to include the four-day Eid al-Adha starting from Sept. 10 to Sept. 18. (Turkey Purge)
