Former Istanbul police chief jailed over alleged links to Gülen

Must read

Former Istanbul Chief of Police Hüseyin Çapkın has been jailed over alleged links to a movement inspired by US-based Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen.

It is worth noting that the government has so far arrested all police chiefs who were in key positions at the Istanbul Police Department when a corruption investigation was launched in 2013 against then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s inner circle and Cabinet minister over graft charges.

Critics say the government is pursuing a policy of revenge and putting police chiefs behind bars on the pretext of having ties to the Gulen movement.
