Military strikes terrorists after attack on Turkish tank in Syria

The Turkish military said it destroyed terrorist elements after a rocket attack on a Turkish tank that wounded three soldiers west of Jarabulus on Tuesday.

A rocket launched by terrorists hit a Turkish tank west of Jarabulus, lightly damaging the tank, according to the military.

A lieutenant colonel and two soldiers were injured in the attack and were transported to Turkey for treatment, the military said in a statement.

This the second such incident after a rocket attack on Saturday killed a soldier and wounded two others south of Jarabulus. Ankara put blame on Kurdish militia the People’s Protection Units (YPG) for the attack, which targeted two Turkish tanks.

The military said Turkish forces had launched an operation against terrorist elements west of Jarabulus after Tuesday’s attack.

Nearly a week has passed since Turkey crossed into Syria to clear its long border of terrorist Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.

Backed by the US and Turkey, rebels captured Jarabulus from ISIL in an offensive last week.
