A police chief who arrested the governor of Karasu district over the latter’s alleged links to the Gulen Movement, has been detained in an investigation into the movement as well.
According to Birgün daily, Karasu Police Chief Erol Develi was the head of the police team that detained Yavuz Gül, the governor of Aydın’s Karasu district last week on the grounds that Gül had contact with people linked to the U.S.-based Islamic preacher, Fethullah Gülen.
Develi on Aug 22 was detained by the police officers from his team on the grounds that he had connection with Gülen as well.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan accusses the Gülen movement of being behind the July 15 coup attempt and demanded extradition of Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen from the US. Thousands of public servants, judges, prosecutors and journalists were detained by the Turkish police for allegedly having links to the Gülen movement.(Turkey Purge)
