A man was detained by police after he shouted “I will blow myself up!” in a mosque in the southern province of Adana ahead of the Friday prayer, creating fear following Tuesday’s deadly suicide bombing at İstanbul Atatürk Airport.

The incident took place in the Sabancı Central Mosque. Shortly before the Friday prayer, the suspect stood up and shouted saying “I will blow myself up!” He was immediately subdued and detained by the police. The mosque was evacuated due to the risk, while bomb disposal teams started searching the mosque for possible existence of explosives.

The crowd leaving the mosque in panic caused a stampede at the entrance, with some almost being subjected to be injured.

No immediate public announcement came from officials regarding whether the detained suspect was carrying any explosives.
