Report claims police postponed ISIS operation due to lack of personnel

A report on Turkish media claimed on Thursday that Bingöl police department postponed an operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) five days due to the lack of personnel, despite a note from prosecutor saying that the capture of the suspects were urgent.

According to the report, someone called the police after security forces raided an ISIL cell house on Oct. 26, 2015 in Diyarbakır and killed 7 terrorists. The caller said that 11 ISIS members in Bingöl was planning an attack on police officers for revenge.

The prosecutor’s office then sent an order to Bingöl and asked for the capture of suspects. Bingöl Police Department, however prepared a written report saying that there were many people who supported ISIS in the city and can cause a backlash. Thus the operation will be carried out in five days to wait for the reinforcement units and vehicles.

The police later conducted the operation and five of the eleven suspects were arrested by a court.
