President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that the European Union has been stalling Turkey for 53 years.
Speaking at an Iftar event with Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies at the presidential complex, Erdoğan said, “No one should test our patience. I believe that our government will give the necessary answers.”
Underlining that Turkey would continue its relations with the EU as far as it goes, Erdoğan also said that Turkey is not an ordinary country.
Erdoğan’s remarks were mostly considered as an answer to British Prime Minister David Cameron, who said on June 2 “at this rate they’ll join in the year 3000” in reference to Turkey’s membership to EU.
