Turkish PM Yıldırım’s gov’t wins vote of confidence in Parliament

The 65th government of Turkey, founded by newly appointed Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, has won a vote of confidence in parliament as well as approval for his legislative program.

A total of 453 deputies participated the voting that took place on Sunday. Newly formed Turkish government won the vote of confidence with 315 of the deputies voting in favor, according to the results announced by the Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman.

The remaining 138 deputies participating the voting used their votes against the government formed by PM Yıldırım.

Making a speech after winning the vote of confidence, Yıldırım said: “As the governments founded by [the Justice and Development Party] AK Party, we have a common feature. No matter how many votes we received in the elections, we become a government for everybody after we win the vote of confidence. We are now the government of the whole 79 million.”

Yıldırım also promised to work hard to lead the democracy in Turkey to a greater level and attach importance to personal rights and freedoms.

Binali Yıldırım is a close ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who declared him prime minister after Yıldıırm was elected as the new leader of the AK Party at a party congress. His appointment serves for Erdoğan’s plan to create a full presidential system in Turkey.
