A Turkish Airlines (THY) passenger plane, headed to London from Istanbul, was forced to make emergency landing in the Serbian capital of Belgrade on Thursday when an unattended cell phone was found in the cockpit.

THY Flight TK1979 took off from the Atatürk airport in Istanbul at 8:34 a.m. During the flight, a cell phone was found in the cockpit. The cabin crew made an announcement asking whether the discovered cell phone belonged to any of the passengers.

When the attempt to find the owner of the phone failed, the plane gave an alarm and safely landed in Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport, which appeared to be the nearest airport for an abrupt landing.

The plane is expected to take off soon following procedural security check.
