Soldier dies in boat search, 3 others injured in PKK attack

A soldier was killed in a bomb explosion as the Coast Guard Security Command was conducting search on a fisher boat in the southern province of Hatay and three soldiers were injured in the southeastern Mardin province when an explosive was detonated on the road supposedly by the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Sunday.

The Coast Guard Security in Hatay received a tip early in the morning that dead bodies were spotted on a fisher boat close the Çevlik shore and went to the address. While a team examined the boat, a blast occurred for an unknown reason. One soldier died and two people, a soldier and a fisher, were wounded as a result of the explosion.

A crowded group of locals swarmed to the neighborhood following the noise caused by the blast. The two injured were taken to the shore by the Coast Guard Security Command and then taken to a hospital. Cahit Çelik, the district governor of the Samandağ district, delivered a statement saying that an examination was ongoing in order to find out the cause of the explosion.

In the Nusaybin district of Mardin, where a military operation and a curfew have been underway since March 14, an explosive that had been planted on the road was detonated remotely by PKK members while an army vehicle was driving by. The incident took place in the Abdülkadirpaşa neighborhood. Three soldiers were reportedly injured. They were all taken to the Nusaybin state hospital for treatment.
