Oil site collapse kills one in SE Turkey: governor

An oil-drilling installation collapsed in southeastern Turkey on Sunday, killing one worker and injuring two more, Agence France-Presse reported, citing local authorities.

The accident occurred at a drill site in the Mount Gabar area of southeastern Şırnak province.

An engineer died after being trapped under the equipment, said provincial governor Cevdet Atay, who visited the accident site.

Another trapped workman “was rescued immediately after the accident and transferred to a hospital by helicopter,” Atay’s office said on X, while another survived with slight injuries.

An investigation into the accident has been opened, it added.

The Turkish Petroleum Corporation began drilling oil in the region in 2022.
