Turkey’s unemployment rate rose to 11.3 percent in April

Turkey’s unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage point to 11.3 percent in April, while a seasonally adjusted measure of labor underutilization fell 0.7 percentage points to 21.7 percent, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) showed on Friday.

The labor underutilization measure was on a declining trend for much of last year after peaking at 29.5 percent in January 2021 under the impact of measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The employment rate was 47.1 percent with a 0.6 percentage point monthly rise as the number of employed rose by 408,000 to 30.4 million.

The labor force participation rate rose 0.7 percentage points from a month earlier to 53.1 percent in April, data from TurkStat also showed.
