Turkey has 222,402 coronavirus cases, death toll at 5,545

Turkey announced 902 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number to 222,402, while 19 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

According to the chart the death toll has reached 5,545 with the latest additions.

The number of daily coronavirus cases has remained below 1,000 for the last 10 days, the ministry data indicated.

“The number of new cases is down to near 900 after 44 days. In many cities the use of face masks has become common,” Koca tweeted.

There are 1,244 patients in intensive care, 381 of whom are on ventilators.

The chart indicated that 1,203 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkey conducted 43,404 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 4,403,031.

The chart showed that 205,214 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.

Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
