Turkey’s coronavirus cases exceeded 175,000 on Friday with an increase of 1,195, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
The death toll reached 4,778 with 15 more people dying in the last 24 hours.
The number of coronavirus patients in intensive care increased by 21 to 664, the chart indicated.
“The number of active coronavirus cases is around 25,000. The increase in the number of patients in intensive care is at the outer limit of the estimates,” Koca tweeted.
“The spread of the virus stems from a misplaced optimism. Please comply with the rules regarding the use of face masks, social distancing and washing your hands frequently,” he added.
Turkey confirmed the first case on March 11.
The daily increase in cases had been below 1,000 since late May.
