Turkey’s confirmed coronavirus cases reach 13,531, death toll at 214

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca on Tuesday said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases had grown to 13,531 with an addition of 2,704 in the last 24 hours, and that the death toll had increased by 46 to 214.

“The number of tests conducted increased by 25.2 percent. The number of test centers has expanded to 75,” Koca tweeted.

According to a chart the minister posted on Twitter, 1,469 people have been admitted to hospitals, of whom 847 are in intensive care.

The first case of coronavirus in Turkey was confirmed by the minister on March 11.

Since then, 92,403 tests have been conducted to detect the coronavirus, the chart indicated.

Experts say the exponential increase in the number of cases poses a great danger to the Turkish public.

There are claims that the number of COVID-19 cases is actually higher than what is officially announced as many cases go unnoticed because tests are not widely performed.

First seen in the Chinese city of Wuhan, COVID-19 has spread rapidly around the world, infecting more than 845,000 people worldwide and killing more than 41,400.
