A Syriac Christian woman who along with her husband had been missing in Turkey’s southeastern province of Şırnak since Jan. 11 was found dead on Friday, BBC Turkish reported.

The body of 65-year-old Şimoni Diril, the mother of Remzi Diril, a Catholic Chaldean priest in İstanbul, was discovered in a stream close to the village of Kovankaya, BBC said.

Şimoni and her 71-year-old husband Hurmuz Diril, residents of Kovankaya (Mehri), the only Christian village in Beytüşşebap, went missing on Jan.11.

The woman’s body was discovered by two of her children, Remzi Diril said.

“My brother was out herding the goats and saw a bloated body by the river. He realized the body belonged to our mother,’’ Diril said.

“They searched for my father’s body, too, but it has not been found as of yet,” he said.
